Honoring Martin Luther King’s legacy today, 01/17/22.

Voices of Race, my social change portrait series, continues. I anticipate within the next few months, there will be a dedicated Voices of Race page on my web site.

Here is my current description of the series:

Voices of Race has been an evolutionary series shaped by our political, environmental, cultural, and societal happenings since its initial development in March 2020. To date, nearly 240 people have participated, sharing their unique perspectives. As time goes by, I am coming to realize that Voices of Race is a tool for fostering civil discourse on any topic that would benefit from amplification and discussion as it relates to race, culture, justice, political and social economy and more. In my opinion, respectful/objective communication and listening are two critical skills we all can benefit from exercising right now given the discordant nature we are currently experiencing. This series is open to all to participate and no one is censored. In 2022, I would envision taking Voices of Race “on the road” wherever I may travel.  If you are interested in contributing your unique perspective and/or you would like me to travel to your area for the series, please send me a message with your phone number and the best time to reach you.

Voices of Race, a portrait series by Kathleen Dreier, is dedicated to amplifying the voices of our BIPOC communities and being a call of action for all people particularly white communities to be social change agents.  Each participant is encouraged to share whatever they like regarding diversity, inclusion, racism, culture, privilege, etc. No one is censored. My intention and wish is that the viewer reflect upon the words of the person in the portrait and is inspired to engage in their own courageous conversations with their friends and family. It is time we each take the time to reflect on our individual and collective histories, heal from the damage done, and create the foundation for equity and compassion for every human being.
