I am honored to announce the 01/21/22 opening of “Tucson Stories: Food, Health, Community, Justice” located in the University of Museum of Art Community Gallery as a companion addition to the current  “Art of Food” exhibit. It is an honor to be included in this exhibit with The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.

“Tucson Stories” features the portraits and recorded voices of 12 Tucsonans who originally participated in one of my  2020-2021 social change portrait series, Tucson Frontline Workers, Tucson Black Voices, and Voices of Race.

As the public is looking at a given portrait, they will have the option to follow QR code instructions which allows access to the subject’s recorded voice sharing their perspective. It’s an opportunity for the viewer to slow down and listen to a viewpoint they might not have heard before.

For those who are in Tucson or plan on visiting, the exhibit is up until April 23rd, 2022. The hours of the gallery are 10am-430pm, Tuesday through Saturday.

I wish to extend my profound gratitude to all of the participants for sharing their experiences, and to the Museum of Art for their sponsorship, opportunity and guidance regarding this exhibit.

I have been a longtime member of Social Documentary Network, an online forum for documentary photographers from around the world to post galleries of their work related to social justice topics of all kinds. With the ongoing polarization attached to the plethora of issues in the United States, the intention of the Voices of Race portrait series is to amplify perspectives, encourage civil discourse, foster understanding of our individual and collective history, and to be a call of action for all to be social change agents

In the March 2024, I spent a delightful couple mornings taking portraits of approximately 300 elementary-aged students at a local Tucson school, Da Vinci Tree Academy. This is a small sampling of the students that I photographed.
