I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, INC (national) and Omega Rho Zeta, Marana (Arizona) Chapter. On April 3rd, 2021 I had the distinct honor to be recognized as one of the 5 recipients of The Finer Womanhood Community Service Award at this year’s Hats Off To Sisterhood Scholarship Event. I would like to also extend congratulations to my four sister recipients: Ashley La Russa, Nikieia Nicole Johnson, Claire Rosales-Logue and Robin Elaiho. I am blessed to be in such honorable and good company.
About Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc:
“Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was founded in 1920 on the campus of Howard University in Washington D.C., as the sister organization of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Five women chose not to embrace the tenets of established black sororities, and chartered Zeta Phi Beta Sorority to encourage the highest standards of scholarship through scientific, literary, cultural and educational programs; promote service projects on college campuses and in the community; foster sisterhood; and exemplify the ideal of Finer Womanhood. A private nonprofit organization, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority is incorporated in Washington, D.C., and in the State of Illinois.”
Zeta Phi Beta’s Sorority now has a world-wide membership of over 100,000 Black women. As a White woman, to have my social change photography work (Tucson Black Voices, What White People Think) recognized by the Marana chapter, Omega Rho Zeta, these powerful women inspire me and by their honor, give me a call of action to continue in my own efforts to amplify Black voices as well as engage White people to be social change agents. Receiving this recognition is truly one of the greatest honors of my life.
